Il primo album a non riportare questa inutile trovata, fu “Heart and soul” ove, finalmente, la possiamo ascoltare con un mixaggio eccellente, a differenza di quello eseguito per il 33 giri “Elvis–That’s the way it is”.

la registrazione di “Bridge over trouble water” di Paul Simon e Art Garfunkel (Columbia 33187) vendette oltre 5 milioni di copie e raggiunse la vetta delle classifiche Hot 100 e Easy Listening di Billboard; inoltre vinse il Grammy come miglior canzone dell’anno e miglior canzone contemporanea.
Nel 1971, Aretha Franklin registrò a sua volta questo brano (Atlantic 2796) arrivando fino al 1° posto della classifica Rhythm’n’Blues.
Buck Owens, invece, raggiunse il #9 della graduatoria Country con la sua esecuzione (Capitol 3023).
